A quiet voice

This is a story about the importance of listening to that small, quiet voice within. Art Beaudry was a teacher of origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, at the LaFarge Lifelong Learning Institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was asked to represent the school at an exhibit at a mall in Milwaukee and decided to bring along a few hundred paper cranes to pass out to people who stopped by his booth. Before the exhibit, Art heard a voice telling him to find a piece of gold foil paper and make a gold origami crane. The voice was so insistent that Art found himself searching through his collection of origami papers at home until he found a flat, shiny piece of gold foil. Art was hesitant to work with the difficult gold foil paper, but the voice persisted, telling him to give the crane to a special person. Art finally gave in and carefully folded the gold foil into a graceful crane. He packed it with the other colorful cranes he had made in the weeks leading up to the exhibit. On the day of the exhibit, many people stopped by Art's booth to learn about origami. As he demonstrated the art, a woman stood quietly watching him fold a pink paper crane. Art felt a sudden urge to give her the gold crane and did so, explaining that it was the ancient symbol of peace. The woman was moved to tears and told Art that her husband had passed away three weeks earlier, on their 50th wedding anniversary. She believed that the gold crane was a gift from God and thanked Art for listening to the voice within his heart. This experience taught Art the importance of listening when the Holy Spirit speaks to him, even if he doesn't understand the reason at the time.
